This temple is in the heart of Kumbakonam city very near to Peria kadai Theru. Local buses towards Dharasuram will stop at this stop. There are autos and share autos available. Many temples are near by , so it is better to fix an auto for half day after negotiation.
This temple is along Kaveri River and is one of the Pancha Ranga Kshetrams. Sarangapani Koil has maximum number of Azhvaars (7 of them) singing praise of Lord Vishnu after Srirangam and Tirupathi(Total 51 Pasurams).
There are two entrances, Uttara vassal opens when the sun reaches the tropic of Capricorn (Uttarayanam), in the north and Dakshina vassal opens when the sun reaches the tropic of Cancer, in the south(Dhakshinayanam). There is no swarga Vaasal at the Saarangapani temple.
Recently the Ther Thiruvizha after about 50 years started celebrating in grand manner.
